For the beginner or novice user such as myself, this program covers all the essentials such as brushes & patterns, selection tools, & edit photos in various formats - free of charge. Given my last year or so of using GIMP, this is hands down my most preferable image-editing software. While there were just a few shortcomings I noticed in the software, they never hindered my overall experience when accomplishing my work. In terms of what the software has to offer, GIMP prevails in many areas against some of the competition given its plethora of features & ease of use.
